reuniting with glass

2018-2020

I was very fortunate to get back into glassblowing and worked out of Bob McLeod Glass in Campbell River. During this time I did a lot of solo blowing and also was blessed some with fun weekend team glass blowing with Bob where we both assisted for one another and if needed, had his amazing wife Shannon to offer extra hands! I slowly have been building back up my skill level as well as trying to establish myself with the local community and online.

In 2020 when Coronavirus started I had to seriously re think my process. I decided it was time to start building my own studio as isolation meant months went by without being able to work. I travelled for three years to another town and this has also been a lot to commit to. I am so excited for my new adventure and so endlessly grateful to fiasco glass.

becoming a mom

2014-2018

In 2013 we had our first Son and in 2015 our second. My addiction to glassblowing asked me to stop pursing this path while I connected with my babies.

I attended the North Island College her in the Comox Valley, taking a course here and there for sanity and artistic development. I took drawing, painting, creative process and ceramics. It was while crafting with clay and throwing bowls on the wheel that I desperately needed to be reunited with molten

In 2016 I started art journaling with the get messy art journal on instagram and have since included art journaling into my yearly art practice.

Black Diamond

2013

When I first arrived in Canada and was pregnant with my youngest I was very fortunate to get to assist for Julia Reimer and Tyler Rock at Firebrand Glass in Black Diamond, AB.

Although very hormonal and displaced from my homeland and eventually flooded out of our home in High River! I got to experience blowing glass in the snow for the first time as well as assist for two very talented Canadian Glass Blowers. During this time I also taught workshops and did cold working for the couple.

Chronicle Glass

2011-2012

I was very fortunate to be employed by both Katie Brown and Lyndsay Patterson where I worked as assistants for the blowers. These blowers had several assistants and my variety of jobs was broad. I was blessed to help Lyndsay on occasion as his main assistant and this grew into him inviting me to help him blow glass for Hobbit Movie.

I also was employed to work in the Art Gallery on the weekends as they had a store upstairs above the glassblowing pit. In this time I was the sole operator of the retail outlet and took on all the roles expected from a gallery assistant with pride. I loved promoting the amazing glass artists in our community

The Hobbit

2011-2012

Assisting Lyndsay for the Hobbit movie turned out to be about two years of work where I helped him produce an abundance of unique shapes for the movies. I worked with Lyndsay, Brendon Sole, and Steve Fazeske. The project ended with a commission for 1600 artisan wine bottles that were given as gifts to all of the cast and crew.

Whanganui Glass School - New Zealand

2010-2012

I first attended a summer school with David Traub for glassblowing in the summer of 2010 and feel deeply in love with the process.

I enrolled in the full glass program at the Wanganui Glass School through UCOL and began my studies in hot glass, warm glass, glass design, glass production, drawing and business.

Although having a small class was difficult at times, it also meant I got amazing hands on tuition and grew profoundly in the hot shop due to availability of time.

I loved casting glass also and learning the process of developing a glass design. I had a very strict blowing teacher who only ever let us blow after we had a fully thought out and developed idea and we were confined to using only clear glass in the beginning. This was hugely beneficial to me and I am always grateful to my teachers Nigel Jones and Karen Ellet for their teachings.

David Traub

Other

I was very fortunate to be assistant to world renowned Glass artist David Traub when I started at the Wanganui Glass School. He was magical to me and I yearned to learn from his fluid way with the glass.

I was then teaching assistant for David during the following summer schools

Keith Grinter

Other

I helped Keith with some outstanding pieces which living in Wanangui. He often hired the glass school on the weekend and I was always eager to offer my arms for turning and door opening. Keith would paint tiny cooled parisons and then heat them and blow them out in the hot shop. The pieces were large and time consuming and a truly exceptional process to be apart of.

Clare Belfrage

Other

In 2011 Australian artist Clare Belfrage came to NZ and I partook in a workshop she offered. In this workshop we used stringers to draw and create patterns on the glass! Clare works with many themes of nature and is inspired my movement. Watching her process was an honour as was learning aside some of NZs top blowers.

I was very fortunate to be accepted to be apart of workshop put on by Lino and his team of world renowned artist including Nancy Callan and Dave Walters.

it was a viewing workshop where we sat around and viewed his team doing very intricate processes and the evenings attended social glass functions.

I still buzz when I think about this as Lino is a true Master of the molten.
